Timeline

Social Media Manager

  • Gannett
  • Nov 1, 2011 - Feb 29, 2012
  • Patrick helped set the social media strategy with Gannett's 100+ media organizations, including USA Today. He also made decisions on developing new and existing products, working directly with reps at the biggest social media companies (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and Gannett's own developers to deliver first class digital products and sales solutions. He also hosted regular social media conference calls, webinars, and training sessions with reporters, managers, producers and editors across the division.

Digital Development Director

  • Gannett/WUSA-TV
  • Aug 1, 2008 - Nov 1, 2011
  • Patrick joined WUSA-TV as the Digital Development Director overseeing the station's ten websites as well as their companion social and mobile sites/apps. Sites specialize in hyperlocal/neighborhood coverage, nightlife & entertainment, moms, high school sports, and daily deals. Patrick also hires employees, manages budgets and develops strategic plans with the GM and other department heads. Highlights: -- Manage the #1 followed Twitter account among all Gannett's broadcast markets. -- Increased traffic YoY on station's website by +500% (comScore) and +1,200% on mobile sites/apps (Omniture). -- Conduct formal seminars on how to use mobile products, social media tools, CMS platforms and SEO for the newsroom. -- Create and host several social meetups in the DC market. -- Pilot and evaluate several Gannett initiatives before determining a company-wide rollout. The best practices performed with Patrick's team are often discussed and shared among other Gannett stations. Being dubbed as a "digital disruptor," Patrick helps create campaigns that go far beyond the traditional ad units through landing pages, social media, mobile apps, text messaging and prime time programming. Patrick is also a multi-year participant and regional coordinator with the Gannett Mentoring Program. You can also see Patrick speaking at workshops and several social networking events covering every aspect of digital convergence in journalism. You can find him at various DC startup and tech events and meetups.

Senior Web Producer/Manager

  • FOX Television Stations, Inc./KTVI
  • Oct 1, 1999 - Jul 1, 2008
  • Patrick helped launch the MyFOX web platform in St. Louis, managed the web team in day-to-day and overall strategies of the station’s site and spin-off sites. His team helped create one of the most trafficked FOX station sites in the country for page views and uniques and became the biggest FOX blogging site in the country. He also worked on several task force projects with FOX corporate, mostly relating to the redesign of the web platform. He also received an Emmy Award for Interactivity for online winter storm coverage. Before his promotion as manager, Patrick moderated the news, sales and promotional content for the website. Non-web responsibilities included writing daily news topicals and producing promos for station events. He produced hundreds of radio commercials combining talent, music, and news clips to promote FOX 2's newscasts and prime-time programming.

Chief Audio Engineer

  • SmithLee Productions
  • Jun 1, 1998 - Sep 1, 1999
  • Patrick recorded, edited, and produced audio projects for national and local clients, including commercial radio, post-production audio for video, interactive voice response systems, stadium jumbotrons, audio for CD-ROMs and streaming audio. Major digital audio workstations include ProTools, Sound Forge, and Sony Sound Forge. Recorded and mixed everything from children's choirs to death metal bands.

Morning Show Producer, KYKY-FM

  • CBS Radio
  • Jan 1, 1994 - Jan 1, 1998
  • Patrick produced and engineered promos, commercials, production bits and montages. Managed station promotions with the morning show, planned all elements of the show (scheduled guests, screened calls, operated the board, prepared breaks, coordinated giveaways, and kept the show on-time.) During his tenure as a producer, the show reached #1 in W25-54 for the first time in the history of the station. When needed, he would produce sales spots and station promos. He helped launch and oversee development of the station’s website at Y98.com. And as any producer in this position, he had his occasional 15 minutes of fame, whether it was trying to get a dog out of morning traffic by sticking dog food all over his body, or trying to beat the world's record for a 400-meter run--knowing he never stepped foot once on a race track (good call bringing the medic!) The morning show team won numerous A.I.R. Awards, including the Best News Interview in St. Louis featuring the last survivor of the Titanic, Millvina Dean.
